Want to know where and approximately when you can get the freshest home-grown berries, grapes, peaches, watermelon, tomatoes, cantaloupes, corn and other produce? The Arkansas Farm Bureau has printed a handy-dandy brochure design printing titled Best Pick Farm Markets that will help. This brochure design printing lists the approximate dates for the harvest season of just about every Arkansas fruit, vegetable and nut. (It also notes that the dates may vary because of location.)
Inside the brochure an Arkansas map locates the Best Pick Farm Markets by county. Only farmers who are members of the Farm Bureau and have pick-your-own operations are on the list and map. Each has agreed to follow the bureau's Best Pick standards of quality, marketing practices, cleanliness and customer convenience. A number identifies each farm in its approximate location on the map. Each farm's number is repeated beside a thumbnail paragraph giving directions for getting to the farm and the specific crops grown there.Farms that also have roadside stands are identified by the letters RS between the address and directions for finding the farm. Cut-your-own Christmas tree farms are identified by small tree silhouettes beside their listings. Copies of the brochure have been sent to local Farm Bureau offices, Chamber of Commerce offices, local Cooperative Extension offices, American Retired Association Persons offices and Parks and Tourism information centers. Send a self-addressed and stamped, business-size envelope with a request for Best Pick Farm Markets. Paper plates for ribs Cookout diners who are tired of having the barbecued ribs or chicken drippings sully the beans and slaw and hang over the edge of their paper plates, which also sag under the load of assorted edibles, take heart. Now you can buy big oval paper plates (12 5/8 by 10 inches) that will hold those awkwardly long ribs as well as assorted accompaniments. While the size is increased, the likelihood of the plate leaking or sagging of plates is reduced to virtually nil. The size of the plates, which are microwavable, also makes them useful for serving meats, salads or just about anything else. Completely biodegradable, the disposable plates are molded of heavy fibers instead of pressed out of paper like most paper plates. That is what makes them less likely to bend or leak, according to the manufacturer, Chinet, whose slogan is " The next best thing to china."
