Skiing And Brochures
TV glamour girl Sarah Kennedy added a sparkle to the launch of this year's "Ski Scotland 89/90" brochure design templates as Europe's newest ski resort, at Aonach Mor, gets ready for the snows. Development of Fort William's Nevis Range resort has already won Lochaber a major slice of promotion through Scotland's main winter sports brochure design templates, in the first step towards winning a lucrative year-round tourism season for the area.
Sarah said: "With Ben Nevis and a host of other attractions, Lochaber has always been one of my favourite seasonal holiday destinations. This new resort at Aonach Mor means any time of year is the right time for a visit." Former star of Thames TV's "Game For A Laugh," she took the first ride up the mountain slopes in the resort's unique gondola "people-mover," centrepiece of the £8 million development, before launching the Scottish brochure. The resort features on the front cover of "Ski Scotland 89/90" and is showcased extensively in a 10-page section inside. Aonach Mor will provide 70 jobs on the hill this winter and 50 as a summer visitor attraction, says the Highlands and Islands Development Board. The resort is expected to take up to ten per cent of skier days in Scotland this year, earning a substantial slice of the £20 million generated by the industry, which provides about 1,500 full- and part-time jobs during the season. Mr Archie McCunn, HIDB member for the board's south area, said: "Aonach Mor's arrival on the scene comes against a background of steadily rising demand for Scottish skiing but the significance of this development is not restricted to skiers alone. "While the resort offers new snd exciting sport for them, it also provides a tremendous opportunity for tourism operators in Lochaber to upgrade their existing facilities and develop new activities and new business. "We have seen how such projects can be a catalyst for wider development. Aviemore was once just a small railway junction but the the arrival of skiing led to substantial investment in tourism facilities off the slopes and to a year-round tourism season for the Spey Valley area." For those wanting to "Ski Lochaber," which includes the nearby Glencoe area, a midweek, five-night deal including bed, full Scottish breakfast and dinner - with equipment hire, lift pass and instruction - costs from just £155. Produced by the HIDB, in co-operation with the Scottish Tourist Board, "Ski Scotland 89/90" features 135 different packages at the UK's five top ski resorts - Cairngorm, Glenshee, The Lecht, Glencoe snd Aonach Mor, with Cairngorm offering a lowest price of £109 for five nights, including a full ski hire, instruction and uplift pass pack.
