These color brochures would guide about Winter Sun prices which start from as little as £79 for seven nights (Cala d'Or Park Apartments in Majorca) and Horizon has introduced its new Triple Winter Bonus for early-bookers: guaranteed lowest prices: a special group offer - up to two in ten go free: and up to 85 per cent off for children.
The extensive range of over 60 resorts now includes three new areas: Florida - with free car hire included - from as little as £262: Madeira and Tunisia. New is "Special Selection" - hand-picked hotels providing an extra touch of luxury as well as many more self-catering holidays on offer. Home from Home, Horizon's rapidly-growing programme of holidays for the over-55's, has been incorporated into the main Winter Sun color brochures. Once again the company is pleased to report a satisfactory increase in group profits for the year and after allowing for the fact that we are comparing the results for a 52 week year with that of 53 weeks the preceding period. The heavy programme of capital investment has been maintained at home and overseas and during the year a record £132 million has been spent on new assets to improve our position in the competitive markets in which we operate. In previous years the profits arising on the sale of properties have been shown in Extraordinary Items, whilst the cost of rationalisation and reorganisation have been charged against trading profits. In accordance with accepted accounting practice, this year all profits on sales of properties used in continuing businesses have been included in trading profits. These profits arise largely from the sale of properties becoming surplus to operational requirements as a result of our rationalisation programme. Their existing policy of charging reorganisation costs against trading profits remains unchanged and, net of the associated property profits, these were not materially different from last year's charge of £3.5 million. The directors declared a second interim dividend of 6.5p per share which, together with the associated tax credit, is equivalent to 8.67p per share. |
